FishingCatch-and-release fishing is allowed at the following parks with a valid NC Fishing License:

  • River Road Park
  • Smith Creek Park
  • Trails End Park

The pier at River Road Park is currently closed due to hurricane damage. Construction has begun on the new pier with an anticipated completion date of early July.

A fishing license may be obtained at the NC Wildlife Resources Commission.

Fishing is a popular recreational activity in New Hanover County and many people enjoy eating their catch. North Carolina encourages people to eat a variety of fish because of the health benefits, however, certain fish contain high levels of contaminants such as mercury that may pose a health risk to humans.
