
Steven Still, a fourth generation Wilmingtonian, is the director of New Hanover County Emergency Management. In this position, Steven is responsible for the overall management and administration of county-wide Emergency Operations.
Steven began in the Emergency Management Department in 2012 as the deputy director and became director in 2017. Prior to Emergency Management, Steven worked in New Hanover County’s Planning Department since 2006.
Steven has overseen numerous mitigation and construction projects, has extensive experience as an incident commander in emergencies and planned events, and has persevered numerous disaster declarations. Currently, Steven sits on the North Carolina Domestic Preparedness Region Board, The North Carolina State Interoperability Executive Committee, North Carolina Emergency Management Performance Grant Committee, North Carolina Incident Management Team, New Hanover County Community Child Protection Team, New Hanover County Child Fatality Review Board, New Hanover County Safer Schools Task Force, the New Hanover/Brunswick County Radiological Emergency Preparedness Task Force, The UNCW Masters of Public Administration Advisory Board and numerous others.
Steven holds a bachelor’s degree and Masters of Public Administration from UNCW. He enjoys traveling, surfing, hunting, wood working and spending time with his wife and children.
